Reviewing Australia’s Development Policy 2023 Event Recap

Our November ONLINE event focused on Australia’s new Development Policy with our speakers sharing the key points that have been welcomed by the sector along with areas that would strengthen the policy in future. The speakers also touched on what would benefit those living in poverty in the forthcoming Gender Development policy.

Australia has released a new international development policy, setting the long-term direction for Australia's development program and priorities for years to come and is the first substantive policy setting for ten years.

The new policy is centred on listening, respect and genuine partnership. It will guide how Australia's development program supports a peaceful, stable, and prosperous future for Australia and our region. 

The Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) welcomed the new policy along with major NGO's, Contractors, Consultants and disability organisations. If you work in the sector, then this policy will impact your working life and career for some time to come.

WiAD’s Chair, Chris Franks, facilitated an insightful and engaging panel discussion between Rebecca Worner (CEO, Palladium); Anthony Carrigan (CEO, Kyeema Foundation) and Wayne Gum (Australia’s Business Development Advisor and Institutional Partnership Manager, Oxfam).

The panelists reflected on the key points of the policy and shared unique and valuable perspectives as to how the new policy will impact the way Australia navigates development on the international stage.

It is great to see a new policy that is community focused and will be interesting to see implementation and next stages as it needs to go further and it needs more money invested. - Chris Franks
